Fukushima nuclear disaster as bad as Chernobyl

JAPAN'S nuclear disaster at Fukushima is as bad as Chernobyl. As a powerful quake struck off the coast of Tokyo this morning, nuclear authorities raised the nuclear emergency level to level seven, the maximum on the scale. The Fukushima nuclear plant has been releasing large amounts of radioactive material in the wake of last month's massive earthquake and tsunami. Preliminary estimates from the Nuclear Safety Commission of Japan suggest that more radiation may have escaped from the plant in the initial hours after the quake. If officials confirm the upgrading from five to seven on the International Nuclear Event Scale (INES) - a global measure from one to seven for nuclear crises - it will be the only time it has been applied other than the 1986 Chernobyl catastrophe. The nuclear crisis stemming from the...

Japan's economy stalls as tremors rattle markets

Masaaki Shirakawa, the central bank's governor, said that while the earthquake would not bring down the country's already debt-ridden financial system, there was "strong downward pressure" on the economy. Shortly before he spoke, another magnitude 7.4 earthquake rattled the Japan's north coast and shook buildings in Tokyo on Monday. The quake sent jitters through world markets, with the price of oil dropping and the yen rising against its most-traded currencies. Further aftershocks later on Monday and early this morning triggered...

Plutonium as fuel? Japan crisis raises doubts

South Carolina: On a tract of government land along the Savannah River in South Carolina, an army of workers is building one of the nation's most ambitious nuclear enterprises in decades: a plant that aims to safeguard at least 43 tons of weapons-grade plutonium by mixing it into fuel for commercial power reactors. The project grew out of talks with the Russians to shrink nuclear arsenals after the cold war. The plant at the Savannah River Site, once devoted to making plutonium for weapons, would now turn America's lethal surplus to peaceful ends...

Yellowstone Supervolcano Bigger Than Thought

The gigantic underground plume of partly molten rock that feeds the Yellowstone supervolcano might be bigger than previously thought, a new image suggests. The study says nothing about the chances of a cataclysmic eruption at Yellowstone, but it provides scientists with a valuable new perspective on the vast and deep reservoir of fiery material that feeds such eruptions, the last of which occurred more than 600,000 years ago. [Related: Infographic - The Geology of Yellowstone.] Earlier measurements of the plume were produced by using seismic...

UN resolution looks to give "Mother Earth" same rights as humans

UNITED NATIONS — Bolivia will this month table a draft United Nations treaty giving “Mother Earth” the same rights as humans — having just passed a domestic law that does the same for bugs, trees and all other natural things in the South American country. The bid aims to have the UN recognize the Earth as a living entity that humans have sought to “dominate and exploit” — to the point that the “wellbeing and existence of many beings” is now threatened. The wording may yet evolve, but the general structure is meant to mirror Bolivia’s Law...

Gaddafi must go as part of peace deal

FOREIGN Secretary William Hague last night demanded Colonel Muammar Gaddafi’s removal from office as a condition of any ceasefire agreement in Libya. Mr Hague warned that while the African Union (AU) appears “sincere” in its effort to bring hostilities to an end after meeting the Libyan leader yesterday, the deal will be viewed by Britain as a “betrayal” if it falls short of the requirement of the United Nations and the rebels. Expressing hopes for a “process of political transition” that allows the country to develop, Mr Hague said: “It is impossible to see a...

Laser gun fired from US navy ship

The US Navy has fired a laser gun from one of its ships for the first time. Researchers used the high-energy laser (HEL) to disable a boat by setting fire to its engines off the coast of California. Similar systems had previously been tested on land, however moist sea air presented an extra challenge as it reduces a beam's power. The navy said that ship-borne lasers could eventually be used to protect...

Darpa’s Hologram Goggles Will Unleash Drone Hell

The Pentagon’s mad-science arm wants robotic death-from-above, on demand. And the key to getting it done just might be holograms. Let me explain. Right now, authorizing and targeting air strikes is a process that’s sometimes bureaucratic, and sometimes dangerous as hell. Bureaucratic as in the Stanley...

Bradley Manning: UN rights expert denied WikiLeaks suspect visit

Juan Mendez says the U.S. government "has not been receptive to a confidential meeting" with Pfc. Bradley Manning. Mr Mendez said in a statement on Monday that a monitored conversation would be counter to the practice of his U.N. mandate. Officials at the U.S. mission in Geneva said they weren't immediately able to comment. Pfc. Manning is being held...

Russia orders missile alert after mysterious ‘vortex’ slams into Germany: report

A shocking ‘top-secret’ report prepared Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) on their meeting this past week with Prime Minister Putin, in Novgorod region, warns that our planet Earth is ‘under attack’ by an as yet unnamed ‘extraterrestrial entity’ to which President Medvedev has...

Fed official calls for cooperation among regulators

New York: Federal Reserve Bank of New York president William C Dudley said regulators of financial companies worldwide need to improve their coordination to minimise the severity and frequency of market crises. “We currently operate with a financial system that is largely regulated on a country-by-country basis,” Dudley said in the text of remarks for a speech in Tokyo on Monday. “This is not tenable. What’s required is not some global authority dictating what national authorities can do but instead greater cooperation and trust in...

Why U.S. housing is still in a vicious downward spiral

TORONTO — U.S. housing prices will continue to fall well into next year, continuing to put pressure on an American economy that is struggling to sustain its recovery. That is the view from Paul Dales, senior U.S. economist with Capital Economics. “Most analysts expect prices to stop falling by the second half of this year — we believe they’re wrong,” Mr. Dales said Monday at the Capital Economic’s annual conference in Toronto. Mr. Dales said that the excess of foreclosed homes set to be sold this year and next will likely push down prices by 5% by the end of 2011. “If we are wrong, it is because we’re being too optimistic rather than pessimistic.”

Bond king shorts U.S. debt

When Bill Gross bets big, markets tend to pay attention. So when the world’s most powerful bond fund manager dumped all U.S. treasuries last month, he amplified broader concerns about the stability of U.S. government debt. And now, it appears, his confidence in treasuries has dropped to less than zero. Mr. Gross, who heads up Pacific Investment Management Co., or Pimco, reduced the US$236-billion fund’s treasury holdings to -3% in March, a position achieved through derivatives, futures or short selling. Paramount among the...

John Boehner’s real tea party test

House Speaker John Boehner is being widely credited as having emerged victorious from last week’s budget showdown — receiving kudos for extracting nearly $40 billion in budget cuts and uniting a fractious tea party behind the compromise bill. But, the real test of Boehner’s abilities as a party leader will come next month when Congress begins debate on raising the federal debt ceiling. How Boehner handles the tea party...

Republicans sell out Christians .... GOP won't fight abortion, homosexual marriage, or other social issues

Congressional leaders and the White House struck what was presented as a historic budget deal late last week, and by most accounts the deal, perhaps tellingly, put finances over philosophy. Republicans, looking for the most cuts possible,..

Donald Trump: I believe in God. I am a Christian

In an exclusive interview with The Brody File, Donald Trump discusses his views on God, going to church and storing all the Bibles he receives in the mail. Trump is seriously considering running for president and he'll need Evangelical votes in the GOP primaries if he's going to be successful. I spoke with Trump in New York a few days ago. My full 6-minute piece on the enthralling Donald Trump interview will air across the...

Anybody for RomneyCare? Mormon Mitt announces 2012 campaign committee

Pope Paul VI's jewellery up for auction on eBay

The items have turned up at a U.S. store owned by a Southern Baptist with a flair for self-promotion. It's the latest stop on a strange journey involving luminaries ranging from UN Secretary General U Thant to Evel Knievel, and which began with Paul VI's novel decision to allow some of his jewellery to be sold to raise money for charity. One of the items is a pectoral...

No pride at Berlin gay pride festival

Tel Aviv Municipality's stand at Europe's largest gay pride parade, set to take place in Berlin in June, won't include any Israeli symbols or markers in an attempt to blur the connection between the city and the state – a problematic brand to market, especially these days. Berlin Municipality invited Tel Aviv to take part in the main festival, which will be taking place ahead of the gay pride events. But the Israeli delegation decided to leave out...

The Cult of Kurzweil: Will Robots Save Our Souls?

Last month a computer—IBM's famous "Watson"—trounced the greatest human Jeopardy players of all time, and effectively inaugurated a new era in human-computer relations. After decades of difficulty—in which all of the problems that seemed easiest turned out to be the most difficult—artificial intelligence (AI) experts are now well (or at least better) positioned to tout the potential of...

Thermal Cameras Show Too Much?

BOSTON (CBS) – A thermal imaging project in the city of Boston has been put on hold because of privacy concerns. Boston officials had hoped to have aerial and street-level photos taken across about four square miles of the city this winter using infrared cameras that would show heat loss in the city homes. Officials planned on sharing the photos and analysis with homeowners, and were hoping the findings would increase enrollment in efficiency programs and also create business...

Fluoride Action Network believes new data will scuttle Australia's water fluoridation programme

Merilyn Haines, the director of the newly formed group FAN-Australia (Fluoride Action Network Australia), has found some startling statistics buried deep in official research material by ARCPOH (The Australian Research Centre Population Oral Health at the Adelaide Dental School) that could scuttle the water fluoridation program once and for all. Haines has found in the ARCPOH statistics that the permanent teeth of children in largely unfluoridated.

TAKE IT SERIOUSLY

EVERYONE at "The Biblical Christian Digital Network" takes News seriously. You should to. Serious enough to realize that ALL NEWS and ALL NEWS SERVICES are biased and opionated. That is a fact; that will not change no matter where you get your news or read it from.

IT IS INHERENTLY OPINIONATED.

This is News for some but there is no such thing as Fair and Balanced or Fact news.

When human beings are involved it means we all see things differently at times. News outside of America admits it is biased; News in America in the last 75 years has tried to "market" the idea of "journalistic integrity" when since before America became a nation it has been the venue of News to express opinion. Often as in media, owned and operated by "Newsservices" for political reason.

It is up to you what you see; what you hear and what you understand.

The Only Facts For a Christian is The Word of God.

You control what you see; Be Carful how you read a story. You control what you hear; Be careful what and who you are listening to. You control what you understand; be mindful of God to direct your understanding.

In all things remember; you control how you act upon them; don't react to them.
