Can He Give It Back?

Q. As a follow up to OSAS and Galatians 5, is it possible for a believer to voluntarily surrender his or her salvation?  I have a brother-in-law who got saved and left the Catholic church many years ago, then recently returned to Catholicism because now he believes he has to have the sacraments to be saved.  Other members of the family believe he may have lost his salvation.  How can I explain to them that he has not?

A. In effect 2 Cor. 1:21-22 says God has accepted responsibility for keeping us saved. John 10:27-30Romans 8:38-39 and other places agree.  The Holy Spirit is sealed within us as a guarantee of our inheritance and there is no provision in the Bible for unsealing us. Therefore we can’t give our salvation back.  If your brother-in-law believes keeping the sacraments are a necessary part of salvation, then either he was never saved in the first place, or else he’s going through a time of confusion and the Lord will rescue him as He does a lost sheep.  Jesus promised never to lose even one of those who’ve been placed in His care (John 6:38-40).

Creation Or Great Flood?

Q. Psalm 104:6-9, which seems to describe the Creation,  says that after land was formed water would never again cover the Earth . This is a huge problem for people that believe the Genesis Flood was global. If have no problem believing that the Genesis flood was global, I just won’t until this contradiction can be resolved. So my question is how do you resolve this contradiction?

A. God’s word cannot contradict itself so the only option available to us is  find out where your interpretation of Psalm 104 is incorrect.

Genesis 7:19-20, which is part of the flood account, and Psalm 104:6 are the only two places where the Bible talks about the water being above the mountains.  Psalm 104:9also says the waters will never again cover the mountains.  This corresponds withGenesis 9:11 where after the flood God said He would never again destroy the Earth with water.

A careful reading of Psalm 104 shows it to be an overview statement where things are not necessarily in order.  For example the psalmist talked about the creation of  birds and animals  (Psalm 104:11-12) before he mentioned the existence of day and night or the Sun and Moon  (Psalm 104:19-22).   The logical conclusion is that Psalm 104: 6-9refers to the Great Flood, not the Creation. That being the case there’s no contradiction between the Genesis creation account and Psalm 104, so there’s no problem believing the Great Flood was global, just like the Lord said it was.

3 Reasons the Media Quickly Embraced the Label 'Fundamentalist Christian' for Norway's Terrorist
At this point, I think most journalists have reached the point that they know that Anders Behring Breivik (a) has self-identified as a 'Christian,' (b) yet he also made it clear that he is not a Christian believer, in terms of beliefs and practice and (c) that it is bizarre to call him a "fundamentalist," in any historic sense of the word.

'Multiverse' theory suggested by microwave background
The idea that other universes - as well as our own - lie within "bubbles" of space and time has received a boost. Studies of the low-temperature glow left from the Big Bang suggest that several of these "bubble universes" may have left marks on our own. This "multiverse" idea is popular in modern physics, but experimental tests have been hard to come by.
