LastCall: Faith Leaders to Obama: Stop the Ban on National Day of Prayer

Faith Leaders to Obama: Stop the Ban on National Day of Prayer

Opinion by ChristianNewsWire
(1 Day Ago) in Religion / Religion in Society

WASHINGTON -- National prayer observances date back to George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Franklin Roosevelt with the National Day of Prayer beginning in 1952 by an act of Congress.

Rev. Patrick Mahoney and Rev. Rob Schenck will be holding a news conference to discuss their call for President Obama to take urgent action on the appeal and the steps they are putting in place for a national campaign.

The news conference will be on Monday, April 19, at 11:00 A.M., in front of the White House on the Pennsylvania Avenue side.

The appeal of this court decision would give President Obama a powerful opportunity to build a bridge to the faith community and demonstrate his commitment to religious liberty and freedom.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, states,

"Earlier this year President Obama said, 'My Administration will continue to oppose growing trends in many parts of the world to restrict religious expression.'  The President now has the opportunity to act on those powerful words in his own country by appealing this unjust decision by Judge Crabb.

"President Obama has a unique chance to build a bridge to the faith community by acting quickly on this matter and reaffirming his commitment to public expressions of faith and the National Day of Prayer. It is not enough for Mr. Obama to make wonderful speeches about protecting religious freedom around the world.

"Now is the time to act on protecting religious freedom in America.

"Sadly, the President's record concerning the Christian community and religious liberty is not a good one. He covered up a cross and a symbol for the name of Jesus at a Georgetown University speech. He did not celebrate the National Day of Prayer at the White House last year. His Administration banned a military flyover for the first time in 42 years at a 'God and Country Rally' in Nampa, Idaho. He also asked for no 'religious' ornaments to be displayed on the White House Christmas tree but allowed an ornament of Chairman Mao to be displayed.

"Mr. President it is time to put 'your money where your mouth is' concerning religious freedom and liberty in America. Please don't trample the founding principles of this nation which promise freedom 'of' religion not freedom 'from' religion."

Rev. Rob Schenck, President of Faith and Action adds,

"Faith and Action and our allied partners, including the National Clergy Council urge President Obama to order the Department of Justice to immediately appeal this outrageous order and to defend the long history of America's calls to prayer.

"These date back to Presidents Washington, Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Reagan and even President Obama himself. This case also focuses attention on the President's nominee for the Supreme Court. I am urging our friends in the United States Senate to be sure to ask any candidate where they stand on this issue and other established public expressions of faith."

Judge bans National Day of Prayer

<< BACK

Monday, April 19, 2010

MEDIA ADVISORY -- Federal Judge Barbara Crabb ruled in favor of atheist complainers at the Freedom from Religion Foundation, that government recognition of prayer violates the First Amendment. Crabb claimed her decision "carries out the Founders' plan of preserving religious liberty to the fullest extent possible in a pluralistic society," proving she actually believes the Founding Fathers, who prayed to the Judeo-Christian God in Congress, would now suddenly oppose public acts of prayer.

The Pray In Jesus Name Project, led by Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt, has already gathered several thousand paper and electronic petition signatures asking President Obama to defend and reinstate public observance of the National Day of Prayer, which Congress created in 1952.

To sign the FREE petition asking President Obama to reinstate NDOP, visit: http://tinyurl.com/obamapray. Please also help our petition go viral by tweeting these words on Twitter/Facebook: "Sign Free Petition: Ask President Obama to reinstate the National Day of Prayer. http://tinyurl.com/obamapray. Please re-tweet many times."

But thus far, White House officials have not yet agreed to meet with Chaplain Klingenschmitt, or receive his petitions. Please call the White House at 202-456-1111 to leave a comment for Joshua Dubois, leader of Obama's faith initiative.

"As a former Navy Chaplain who was punished for praying 'in Jesus name' in uniform," said Klingenschmitt, "I will be joining thousands of people and scores of national ministry leaders at the MayDay2010.org event on May 1st, to pray at the Lincoln Memorial. I hereby invite President Obama to come pray with us, and receive our petitions in person that day."

The MayDay2010.org prayer rally at the Lincoln Memorial on May 1st is is endorsed by James Dobson, Tim Wildmon, Dutch Sheets, Cindy Jacobs, Janet Porter, Rick Scarborough, Mat Staver, 5 Congressmen, and many others.

Chaplain Klingenschmitt may participate in a press conference late next week outside the White House, but is available now for news interviews, at 719-360-5132, or email chaplaingate@yahoo.com.

One Thousand Years: Genesage "Two's Company" (Chapter 10:12)

One Thousand Years

Genesage

“Two’s Company"

(Chapter 10:12)

Just then Caleb walked up.

He saw the two of them together. He stopped for a few minutes watching and realized this was soon to become more private than a casual peck on the cheek.  He turned  nearly running over Rachaelvivor who had been watching from a far.

She had timed coming up on Caleb, so that when he turned, being distracted he didn't hear her. She literally ran into her. He bumped her hard, nearly knocking her over but catching her before she fell.

Some would have said Rachaelvivor planned this.

Some would have been right.

Rachaelvivor looked flushed as she said,

"I don't think they want to be interrupted".

Looking back Ezravivor turned away from her as he also was blushing said,

"No, I don't think they do."

Feeling odd he didn’t know what to say or do, this was “new” to him. It was almost like finding his parents “kissing” or talking about the “old days” in ways Ezravivor was sure He did not want to know.

None of the “new born” in the Kingdom had a clue about guilt.

He dutifully excused himself apologizing to Rachaelvivor.

Rachael coyly commented it was her fault really and she was sorry.

Caleb blushed again for a moment fumbling for words not quite sure what to say. With so much happening today he was at a loss for the moment so he stood quiet.

Rachaelvivor did the same but being shorter than Caleb, standing close, she lowered her head slightly to look up at him.  Arching she eyebrows up to see him the very blue of her eyes with the innocence of expression unnerved Caleb.

He felt uncomfortable and he wasn't sure why.

Having had a very strange day, he was willing to attribute it to learning new experiences. Time seemed an eternity but really only a few minutes passed before anyone spoke. They just both stood there. Caleb looking down, Rachaelvivor looking up.

Caleb was sweating now.

Rachaelvivor asked Caleb if he minded walking her back to Bethleben. It wasn't far but a good walk none the less. Caleb who had already been having a confusing evening actually thought he might like to talk to her. He wanted to talk about some things that were on his mind.

So much was happening around him now and so fast.

Obviously some more than others. Today his world had certainly turned upside down. Rachaelvivor…, as he looked down into her blue eyes so clear, deep, he thought..,

She might be a good one to listen.

Caleb started to ask a question at the exact moment Rachaelvivor started to speak.

Neither got the words out. Each tried to tell the other to go ahead. Again the timing was perfect. Laughing Caleb released his stress with Rachaelvivor beaming one of her frequent smiles.

They started to talk as they both walked off back towards Bethleben.

At that moment Delilah and Ezravivor broke their heavy kissing hearing the laughter.

They saw the two of them, Caleb and Rachaelvivor walking away.  Standing arm in arm soaked to the skin, flushed in mutual attraction, they looked at the two others walking away.

Then looking at each other they started laughing.

Arm in arms they walked out of the water and headed for home walking slowly…,

And walking as young lovers often do.

ClassicChristian: I am the door of the sheep. -Daily Light

Daily Light

April 19 morning

Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.

The veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. - Christ ... hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God. - The way into the holiest of all was not yet made manifest, while as the first tabernacle was yet standing.

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

No man cometh unto the Father, but by me. - Through him we ... have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God. - Having ... boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh. - We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

JOHN 10:7. Matt. 27:51. I Pet. 3:18. Heb. 9:8. John 10:9. John 14:6. Eph. 2:15,19. Heb. 10:19,20. Rom. 5:1,2.

April 19 evening

His word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

Necessity is laid upon me; yea woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel! What is my reward then? Verily that, when I preach the gospel, I may make the gospel of Christ without charge, that I abuse not my power in the gospel. - They called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said unto them, ... We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. - The love of Christ constraineth us.

I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth ... Thou wicked and slothful servant, ... thou oughtest ... to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.

Go ... to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee.

JER. 20:9. I Cor. 9:16,18. -Acts 4:18 20. II Cor. 5:14. Matt. 25:25 27. Mark 5:19.

ClassicChristian: Delayed _Streams in the Desert

Delayed

"Know of a surety that thy seed shall be sojourners in a land that is not theirs; . . . they shall afflict them four hundred years; . . . and afterward they shall come out with great substance" (Gen. 15:12-14).

An assured part of God's pledged blessing to us is delay and suffering. A delay in Abram's own lifetime that seemed to put God's pledge beyond fulfillment was followed by seemingly unendurable delay of Abram's descendants. But it was only a delay: they "came out with great substance." The pledge was redeemed.

God is going to test me with delays; and with the delays will come suffering, but through it all stands God's pledge: His new covenant with me in Christ, and His inviolable promise of every lesser blessing that I need. The delay and the suffering are part of the promised blessing; let me praise Him for them today; and let me wait on the Lord and be of good courage and He will strengthen my heart. --C. G. Trumbull

Unanswered yet the prayer your lips have pleaded
In agony of heart these many years?
Does faith begin to fail? Is hope departing?
And think you all in vain those falling tears?
Say not the Father hath not heard your prayer;
You shall have your desire sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet? Nay do not say ungranted;
Perhaps your work is not yet wholly done.
The work began when first your prayer was uttered,
And God will finish what He has begun.
If you will keep the incense burning there,
His glory you shall see sometime, somewhere.

Unanswered yet? Faith cannot be unanswered,
Her feet are firmly planted on the Rock;
Amid the wildest storms she stands undaunted,
Nor quails before the loudest thunder shock.
She knows Omnipotence has heard her prayer,
And cries, "It shall be done"--sometime, somewhere.

LastCall: We all make mistakes. -Daily Hope

When you pray, give God your guilt
by Rick Warren

Forgive us the wrongs we have done, as we forgive the wrongs that others have done to us. Matthew 6:12 (TEV)

"If you're a Christian carrying guilt around, it's because you're not taking advantage of what Jesus Christ did on the cross."

We all make mistakes. We all have regrets.  I don't measure up to my own standard for myself, much less God's standard of perfection.  It's not very hard to admit you're not perfect.  So what do we do when we fall short?

I was listening to a psychologist on the radio recently.  A guy called in and was pouring his heart out about how guilty he felt for things he had done wrong.  He asked, "How can I get rid of my guilt?"  This psychologist said: "You can't.  You've got to learn to live with it."  I almost shouted at the radio: "Wait a minute! Give me that guy's phone number!  He doesn't have to go through life filled with guilt!"

There is no reason in the world you have to live with guilt. God has given us a way to get rid of guilt. It's called confession.  God promises that when we confess, He forgives us instantly, totally, completely, freely, and continuously.  If you're a Christian carrying guilt around, it's because you're not taking advantage of what Jesus Christ did on the cross.  The next step in making contact with God is pardon: I give God my guilt.

God wants to forgive you.

  • You don't have to beg for forgiveness -- "God, please, pretty please with sugar on it!"
  • You don't have to bargain - "God, if you forgive me, I will never do it again."
  • You don't have to bribe -- "God, if You'll forgive me, I promise to always read my Bible."

You simply believe God because he says you are forgiven.

If you ever run out of things to pray about, just get specific about your sins and weaknesses. When I talk with God about my weaknesses and sins, I never lack for subject matter.  In fact, I'm always coming up with new material!  There's plenty of things to talk about in my life that need to be changed.

You worship God through prayer when you give him your love, your life, and your worries. And also when you ask him for forgiveness of your sins.

GodlyLifeSeries: Introduction

GodlyLifeSeries: Introduction

At times I am told I am wise. At those times I resist the thought to call that person an idiot because I know they mean “What I said was Wise”.

The Truth is there is none so wise as the Man who knows how Stupid He Is and how much so He needs God to be real and alive in His Life so that others might get a “inspiration” into reaching out and reaching up to God, so as Neil Diamond once sang: With the Other Hand Bring a Friend.

What I have learned I share, If it works for you, Great.

God is working on you.

It would be Nice if you Helped Him.

------------------------------------------------------------

Basic Life Principles

seven universal principles of life

Every problem in life can be traced to seven non-optional principles found in the Bible. Every person, regardless of culture, background, religion, education, or social status, must either follow these principles or experience the consequences of violating them.

By learning principles rather than rules, individuals are equipped to make wise choices and avoid failure. The Basic Seminar is designed to help you understand the cause-and-effect sequences of life.

What Are Basic Life Principles?

1. Design

Understanding the specific purposes for which God created each person, object, and relationship in my life and living in harmony with them. Thanking God for my design brings Self-Acceptance.

2. Authority

Honoring the responsibilities of parents, church leaders, government, and other authorities and learning how God works through them to provide direction and protection. Honoring my authorities brings Inward Peace.

3. Responsibility

Realizing I am accountable to God for every thought, word, action, and motive. Asking forgiveness of those I offend brings a Clear Conscience.

4. Suffering

Allowing the hurts from offenders to reveal “blind spots” in my own life, and then seeing how I can benefit their lives. Fully forgiving offenders brings Genuine Joy.

5. Ownership

Understanding that everything I have has been entrusted to me by God, and wisely using it for His purposes. Yielding my rights to God brings True Security.

6. Freedom

Enjoying the desire and power to do what is right, rather than claiming the privilege to do what I want. Regaining ground surrendered to sin brings Moral Purity.

7. Success

Discovering God’s purpose for my life by engrafting Scripture in my heart and mind, and using it to “think God’s thoughts” and make wise decisions. Meditating on Scripture brings Life Purpose.
