Spiritual People
And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.
1 Corinthians 3:1
Spiritual people are those who are born again of the Holy Spirit, who have manifested God’s grace. Paul could not speak to the Corinthians as spiritual people; they were carnal, as infants in Christ. This is sad.
It is a shame when you meet people who have been in the Lord ten or more years, and they are still babies. They do not really know the Lord. They are still in infancy. What happened to their maturity?
What do I mean by infancy? If you have been in the Lord for a long time, and you continue to do the things God brought you out of, or you have gone back to them, you are carnal. You are still a baby and have not matured in the Lord.
If you do not stop doing whatever it is you were doing in the world — drugs, alcohol, sex — then you are carnal. You are not developing, growing or maturing. Instead of being fountains of living water, you are dead fountains. You are making no difference in the world today.
What does it mean for the church today? All their entertainment, programs and testimonies do not last. People will be moved emotionally, but spiritually, they will not grow. They need the teaching of the Word of God in order to become spiritually mature.
All growth that is not towards God
is growing to decay.
