Will The Sun Go Out?
Q. You replied to a reader’s question about Tribulation events concerning the sun, and said that the sun would go super nova which is what will scorch those on the earth during that time. When I read Psalm 72, part of which reads” He will endure as long as the sun, as long as the moon, through all generations”, this seems to contradict your sun dying scenario. If at some point all things will be burnt up on earth which I do believe, the timing of the sun scorching during the Tribulation seems out of sync. I definitely believe the New Jerusalem will light the earth, but can you explain why you think the sun will be totally destroyed?
A. My conclusion is drawn from three places. First, Rev. 16:8-9 describes what I think is a super nova, wherein a star increases in brilliance before going out. Then in Matt. 24:29 we’re told the Sun and Moon will both go dark after the end of the Great Tribulation. Finally Rev. 21:23-24 say the New Jerusalem will not need the light of the sun because the glory of God given it light, and the nations will walk by its light. To me this means the Sun will not longer light the Earth.
