The Messiah in 2012?
There is one event that most all of Mankind is waiting for, and that is the arrival of the Moshiach (Messiah). I will be asking Rav Glazerman about a video he put up showing the possibility of the Moshaich coming in almost exactly one year's time from now, next Passover, 2012.  

'Israel to Become a Religious State in 19 Years'
Professor Arnon Sofer, chair of Geo-strategy at the University of Haifa, has published a report predicting a religious majority in Israel by 2030. Professor Sofer sees this as a negative development.  

6.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Indonesia
An earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter Scale was felt on Monday morning (local time) in the Java island in Indonesia. The U.S. Geological Survey briefly posted a tsunami warning after the earthquake, which they say was centered 318 kilometers off southern Java, 24 kilometers beneath the ocean floor.  

IDF prepares for multi-front war in war games
In the face of a changing Middle East, the IDF held a set of war games this week aimed at preparing the military for all-out war against Hezbollah, Syria and Hamas. The exercise did not include soldiers or live-fire exercises, but was held to drill commanders and their decisions in the event of a large-scale war on multiple fronts.The scenarios simulated during the drill included a war with Hezbollah in Lebanon, sparked by a terrorist attack overseas as well as the involvement of Syria, Hamas and Iran.  

Iran has overcome world arrogance pressures over nuclear program
Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said on Sunday that Iran has overcome all the pressures exerted by the world arrogance over Iranian nuclear program.Elsewhere in his address, the Supreme Leader pointed to the new political developments in the region and said that gracious events are underway in several states of the Middle East which are the outcome of resistance of the Iranian nation to the bullying powers. The Supreme Leader said that major events will take place in the region soon.  

Beijing church faces eviction in tense times
Tears flowed at one of Beijing's biggest "house" churches when some 300 Chinese Christians prayed on the last Sunday before they face eviction from their makeshift place of worship, pressed by officials wary about religion outside of their grip. -"This is the cross that the church has to bear," Pastor Jin Tianming told the worshippers about the prospect of worship outdoors. Some of them wiped tears from their faces.  

Striking union shuts down Gabon oilfields
Striking workers in central African oil exporter Gabon are shutting down the nation's oilfields to press for more local hiring in the sector, a union official said on Friday. Some 50 percent of the country's 220,000-240,000 barrels of daily crude oil output will be shut by the end of the day, with the rest scheduled to be halted within 48 hours, Guy-Roger Aurat Reteno, secretary general of the ONEP union said.  

Human hearts created in lab
They stripped the cells from the hearts of people who had died, leaving behind the organ's tough protein skeleton, known as a “ghost heart”. The researchers seeded eight ghost hearts with living human stem cells, which successfully stuck to them and then, crucially, started turning into heart cells.  

GCC foreign ministers debate Iran ‘meddling’ in region
Gulf Arab foreign ministers meet Sunday in the Saudi capital to discuss Iranian interference in the region after a wave of unrest that has rocked the Arab world spilled over into some of the Western-backed monarchies. The extraordinary meeting comes after Tehran warned Riyadh that it was "playing with fire" by deploying troops in neighboring Shiite-majority Bahrain while Kuwait claimed it had broken an Iranian spy ring.  

At least 75 dead in Burmese earthquake
An earthquake of magnitude 6.8 was reported along the Burmese borders with Thailand and Laos on Thursday night. So far, 75 are said to have died, with over 100 missing. 600,000 have been affected-The town hit hardest was Tarlay, and the fatalities occurred when people were trapped inside some of the dozens of buildings which collapsed.  

Tweaking the climate to save it: Who decides?
...Scientists of earth, sea and sky, scholars of law, politics and philosophy: In three intense days cloistered behind Chicheley Hall's old brick walls, four dozen thinkers pondered the planet's fate as it grows warmer, weighed the idea of reflecting the sun to cool the atmosphere and debated the question of who would make the decision to interfere with nature to try to save the planet.  

Controlling Japan nuclear plant could take months
It could take several more months to bring Japan's tsunami-ravaged nuclear plant under control, a safety agency spokesman said Sunday as engineers tried to find a way to stop highly radioactive water from pouring into the Pacific. The Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear complex has been spewing radioactivity since the March 11 tsunami carved a path of destruction along Japan's northeastern coast, killing as many as 25,000 people.  

Norway to Jews: You're not welcome here
At all of the Norwegian universities, there have been efforts to enact academic and cultural boycotts of Jewish Israeli academics. This boycott is directed against Israel's "occupation" of Palestinian land -but the occupation that the boycott supporters have in mind is not of the West Bank but rather of Israel itself. Here is the first line of their petition: "Since 1948, the state of Israel has occupied Palestinian land ..."  

Israel to Russia: Reconsider Syria arms deal in light of Mideast turmoil
Jerusalem has urged Moscow to review its plans to sell anti-ship cruise missiles to Syria, Israel's ambassador to Russia was quoted as saying on Sunday, amid heightened fears the arms could fall into the hands of militants. Russia, the world's second largest arms exporter, said in February it would press ahead with plans to sell two surface-to-air rocket units armed with P-800, or 'Yakhont', missiles to Damascus in a deal worth 300 million dollars.  

Ivory Coast: aid workers find 1,000 bodies in Duekoue
The single biggest atrocity in the long battle for control of Ivory Coast has emerged after aid workers discovered the bodies of up to 1,000 people in the town of Duekoue. Charity workers who reached Duekoue said it appeared the killings had taken place in a single day, shortly after the town fell to troops loyal to Alassane Ouattara, the man internationally-recognised as having won last year’s presidential election.  

Libya crisis will not end in stalemate - William Hague
The military intervention in Libya will not end in a stalemate, Foreign Secretary William Hague has said. He said Colonel Muammar Gaddafi's regime had no future because it was isolated and "can't sell any oil". Fighting has resumed in Libya, with rebel forces battling for control of the eastern oil town of Brega.  

PM to ministries: Take steps to 'cancel' Goldstone Report
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sunday instructed the Justice, Defense and Foreign Ministries to examine steps that can be taken in order to cancel the Goldstone Report. The move came in light of a Washington Post op-ed published Friday by Judge Richard Goldstone refuting allegations that Israel had a policy of targeted civilians during Operation Cast Lead, Israel Radio reported.  

In Israel, Time for Peace Offer May Run Out
With revolutionary fervor sweeping the Middle East, Israel is under mounting pressure to make a far-reaching offer to the Palestinians or face a United Nations vote welcoming the State of Palestine as a member whose territory includes all of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem.The Palestinian Authority has been steadily building support for such a resolution in September, a move that could place Israel into a diplomatic vise. “We are facing a diplomatic-political tsunami that the majority of the public is unaware of and that will peak in September,” said Ehud Barak, Israel’s defense minister.  

Jewish groups demand Goldstone repair damage
Members of Congress and Jewish organizations in the US have launched a campaign to minimize the huge damage caused to Israel's image in the US by the Goldstone Commission Report, after Judge Richard Goldstone, in an op-ed piece in "The Washington Post" on Friday, retreated from accusations against Israel in his report on Operation Cast Lead in Gaza in 2009 for the UN Human Rights Commission. Reaction to the article is still muted, as it a weekend, a pro-Israel source in Washington told "Globes" that a "flood" of statements, petitions, and even official responses by the House of Representatives and the Senate can be expected in the coming days.  

UN chief 'deeply concerned' at Syria situation
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon Saturday expressed deep concern over the prevailing situation in Syria and called for immediate end to use of violence against peaceful demonstrators in the Middle East country.-Syrian authorities have accused 'armed groups backed by foreign powers' of being behind the recent unrest, during which some 50 people were killed, according to official figures.
