March 14     Today's Devotion From Mike MacIntosh And the children of Israel said to the Lord, "We have sinned! Do to us whatever seems best to You; only deliver us this day, we pray." So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord. And His soul could no longer endure the misery of Israel. Judges 10:15-16 God's heart is one of responding to our prayers and caring for us. He is deeply pained when His kids sin. In our passage today, we see that His soul could no longer endure the misery He saw His people suffering through. The Bible says in the book of Genesis, right before the flood, that the Lord was "grieved in His heart" for all the sin that the world was doing (Genesis 6:6). He's grieved when you sin, and He wants to forgive you if you'll just let Him. We need to make sure that we have spiritual wisdom and discernment to know when we're at that bad place in our lives. And when we do, we need to cry out to Him with the same simple words that the people of Israel did: "I have sinned," and "deliver me today, I pray." We know that God is listening to our prayers and desires to answer us. God's heart is to forgive, but He'll only forgive those hearts that are truly repentant. Often in the book of Judges, we really have to wonder if the Israelites were truly sorry for their sins, or if they were just sorry because they got caught. (If you have kids and grandkids, you know exactly what I'm talking about). Let's not grieve God's heart. He loves us too much and has given us so much. As His children, let's live our lives in thankfulness to Him. "What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:1-4).
