Suffering for His Sake
For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.
Philippians 1:29-30
Here, Paul is telling us we will suffer for Christ, just as he had suffered and was currently suffering. Many times, when people come to Christ and get saved, they think, This is going to be great! Everything is going to be fine from now on! Then, they quickly encounter trials and suffering. What a surprise!
Why should we be surprised? Jesus said, regarding Paul, in Acts 9:16, “For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name’s sake.” You see, Paul was not surprised because Jesus had already warned him, and through the Scriptures, He warns us.
I can look back a long time now and see the hand of God, and even today, the lessons I am learning. I can see how God was talking to me and warning me about trials and suffering. I can see them clearly now, and I know God was, and is, on the throne.
You have not really begun to live until you suffer. Remember, it is going to come to you. I promise you. Everyone will suffer, young and old alike. It does not matter who you are. But always remember, Christ is on the throne.
It is not how loud we can shout, but how well we can suffer, that will convince the world, the integrity of our message.
