Worship in the Tabernacle
And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. According to all that I show you, that is, the pattern of the tabernacle and the pattern of all its furnishings, just so you shall make it.
Exodus 25:8-9
Moving through the Book of Exodus, God gives the children of Israel the Law in the Ten Commandments. He also provides specific blueprints for the design of the Tabernacle, or Temple, the place of worship.
While they were wandering in the wilderness, the Tabernacle of God was made of wood, animal skins and tapestries that could be taken down and moved from place to place. The glory of the LORD would fill the Tabernacle as a cloud when God appeared to the people.
In the New Testament, the Temple, or Tabernacle, is not a tent or building. You and I are declared by God to be the Temple of the Living God (1 Corinthians 3:16-17). And remember who lived in the Tabernacle—God.
In the Old Testament, the people could not enter the Tabernacle while the glory of the LORD was present; but today, God dwells within us through the Holy Spirit. We no longer go to a building to worship God. We are the living temple of God, able to enter into the presence of God at all times—to praise and worship Him.
We see pictures and types of Christ and the church throughout the Old Testament.
