Have you ever wondered whom God would hang out with if He were here on earth today? If He showed up right now and was confined to time and space, if He could only be in one place at one time with one person…whom would He choose to hang out with?

This passage goes a long way in answering that hypothetical question as it tells us that the Lord regards the lowly, but He knows the proud from afar.

Don't misunderstand; God's unconditional love extends to everyone. He is willing that none should perish and that all would come to repentance and faith in Christ Jesus (2 Peter 3:9). That being said, there are certain attitudes that He approves of and certain attitudes that He opposes.

He approves of those who have humble hearts and aren't always promoting themselves. Isaiah 66:1-2 echoes this Psalm, telling us He "regards the lowly." That's the sort of attitude the Lord is all about. On the flip-side, God wants nothing to do with a prideful and arrogant "look at me" attitude. He knows it from far off and keeps it at arm's length.

That tells us a lot about the kind of person God would want to hang with. In fact, it tells us whom He does want to spend time with. Through the Holy Spirit, He's able to fellowship with His people, and it's the meek and lowly in heart, those that the world might deem as "nobody's," that He draws close to.

Keep that in mind. Especially as you consider which of these two attitudes best defines you.

Great God, help us to remember that it's the humble and lowly heart You draw close to. Protect us from adopting any attitude that would put us in a place of pride.

 Think About It…

What does this passage reveal to me about God?

What does this passage reveal to me about myself?

Based on this, what changes do I need to make?

What is my prayer for today?
