The fire started Friday near Possum Kingdom Lake, 70 miles west of Fort Worth, and linked up with several smaller blazes. By Tuesday, it had burned nearly 150,000 acres, destroyed about 150 homes and a church in several communities and forced hundreds of residents to flee the area, Texas Forest Service spokesman Marq Webb said. White ash was falling from the sky Tuesday in several towns. "It's still a long way out there. God help us if it goes that far," Webb told The Associated Press. "Stranger things have happened, but we're not even thinking that at this point."
The battle for influence over the international airwaves has opened a new front—in Washington. “Better to win the war of ideas than have to win a war,” testified Robert Reilly, former director of Voice of America. American international broadcasters target China, Iran, the Middle East and other nations through the Voice of America, Al Hurrah and others, but audiences are shrinking.
In “Judas,” Lady Gaga sings about her love for Judas, the infamous apostle who betrayed Jesus. "Jesus in my virtue and Judas is the demon I cling to...I'm just a holy fool, oh baby he's so cruel, but I'm still in love with Judas baby," sings Lady Gaga.
Russia is pulling out of a program that poured $1 billion from the U.S. government and other foreign donors into the research labs that built the Soviet Union's vast arsenal of weapons of mass destruction.
The Palestinian president says he is opposed to another armed uprising against Israel, even if faltering peace efforts fail altogether. Mahmoud Abbas told reporters in Tunisia on Wednesday that he remains committed to a US-backed target of reaching a negotiated peace agreement with Israel by September.
Republicans say the Obama administration's policies are contributing to skyrocketing gasoline prices – now at more than $4 per gallon throughout much of the country – and they have introduced legislation to reopen the nation's coasts to drilling. This year will be the first year since 1958 that the federal government will not have sold a lease for offshore drilling, and Republicans say this is fueling skyrocketing prices at the pump.
Russia needs to be strong and avoid experiments with "unjustified liberalism" in order to safeguard its sovereignty and prevent outsiders from dictating the country's development, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.
Underneath all the angst over Standard & Poor's warning to downgrade the United States' AAA credit rating within two years, investors say the most important message is that austerity is around the corner. And that means investors are looking to invest in so-called defensive stocks that can grow revenue even in bad times.
"In a word, sensational. Everything's feeding into this -- sovereign debt, the weaker dollar, inflation and investment demand. It is unusual to do it in Asian time. It goes to show how much appetite there is in Asia for bullion.
Former journalist Helen Thomas has been selected as a keynote speaker at a planned march against the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and U.S.-Israel ties. Thomas gained notoriety in May 2010 when she said Israelis should “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go home to Poland, Germany, America and everywhere else.”
The US on Tuesday rejected Palestinian plans to pursue efforts to ask the UN Security Council to recognize a Palestinian state in September. "We don't believe it's a good idea, we don't believe it's helpful," US State Department spokesman Mark Toner said in a statement. "We continue to press both sides to begin talking again in direct negotiations," Toner said.
Gold shot up above $1,500 an ounce on Wednesday for the first time ever as worries over the health of the global economy boosted the metal as a safe haven.
Stephen Omandi scratched out the number "55" on the sign advertising buckets of maize and wrote in the new price: 60 Kenya shillings. The price hike amounted to only $0.06. But for the residents of Nairobi's largest slum, where most people live on $1 a day, that 10 percent increase is enough to make the essential food stuff unaffordable.
A credit rating downgrade for the United States would spell even more financial trouble for the U.S. government, hampering its ability to borrow money as investors demand higher yields to make up for the increased risk. That would cause its national debt to balloon further and increase the need to hike taxes or make even more painful cuts in spending.

TAKE IT SERIOUSLY
EVERYONE at "The Biblical Christian Digital Network" takes News seriously. You should to. Serious enough to realize that ALL NEWS and ALL NEWS SERVICES are biased and opionated. That is a fact; that will not change no matter where you get your news or read it from.
IT IS INHERENTLY OPINIONATED.
This is News for some but there is no such thing as Fair and Balanced or Fact news.
When human beings are involved it means we all see things differently at times. News outside of America admits it is biased; News in America in the last 75 years has tried to "market" the idea of "journalistic integrity" when since before America became a nation it has been the venue of News to express opinion. Often as in media, owned and operated by "Newsservices" for political reason.
It is up to you what you see; what you hear and what you understand.
The Only Facts For a Christian is The Word of God.
You control what you see; Be Carful how you read a story. You control what you hear; Be careful what and who you are listening to. You control what you understand; be mindful of God to direct your understanding.
In all things remember; you control how you act upon them; don't react to them.
"Take Everything to the Lord in Prayer; then leave it there."
