GotQuestions: How can we learn to trust God in regards to things that are completely outside of our control?

Out of control?

How can we learn to trust God in regards to things that are completely outside of our control?

In a word… “faith”. In three words… “prayer and faith”. It is difficult to argue the “Serenity Prayer” we all know so well…. “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference.”

Scripturally…. we are called to be still and know that He is God. The battle belongs to Him, ultimately. We must discern when, where, and “if” God would have us act …in any situation.

The directive of the Great Commission comes to mind. We are commanded to “go”, commanded to “tell”, but also made clear to leave the results to the Father. I think it is worth saying that…. we place the burden of “control” on ourselves. Not a burden “we” were ever designed to carry.

Because the Scripture tells us that God is sovereign. Therefore, I never worry about things outside of my control anymore. We have peace with God (ROM 5:1) and the peace of God (PHIL 2:7) If we don’t have peace then we need to seriously look at our relationship with Him.

    Psalm 46 (King James Version)
    Psalm 46

1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

    2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

7The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

8Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

9He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

11The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

God is our refuge and our strength. HE is a ever-present help for us in times of trouble. WE need to remind ourselves of this and go to HIM with our troubles, right away. God is are helper and he is there for us in all circumstances. God is our ever present help, our refuge and our strength. WE can depend on HIM to be there when we need HIM. We have to really learn to TRUST God and not allow our fear to overwhelm us, but rely on our faith in HIM instead. The LORD is worthy of our trust. Surrender your will to the LORD and believe that HE will take care of you. IT is an opportunity to learn to TRUST the Lord and learn to overcome our fears….

    Be Not Afraid

from 1 Corintians 10:13. God will, with the temptation, also make a way of escape so all of you(ye is plural)are able to bear it.
it is when things are provably outside our personal control that God comes alongside with comfort, or brings others into the picture who join in and help, or some other circumstance provides light or direction in how to think, or where to step, and when to turn.
Jeremiah learned to trust God in his present distress on the basis of remembering how God had helped in the past in Lamentations 3:20-26. later jeremiah resolves in verse 49, “my eye trickles down without ceasing, without any rest until Yehovah looks down, watching from heaven.”

This is best answer by posting biblical verses.

    The Book of Job
    Psalm 37
    Matthew 6:30

And many more. The Bible is full of them.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Phil. 4:6-7

I think of a hymn, “Turn your eyes on Jesus,”

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s a light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

    Refrain

    Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

When things are out of our control is the best time to learn to trust God; All you can do is watch Him work and praise His glory.

Funny question! If I only “trust God” when things are within my control, then I don’t trust God at all for I have become my own god. If I don’t trust God when things are out of my control, then I don’t know who God is. Everything is outside of my control. Name one thing we can control?

Learning the” How to Trust” is the issue.

Faith is easy. It can be blind, intelligent, learned or received as a gift. But Trust is different it is not faith, it a decision each person makes.

Trust is a volition of the mind and thus requires choice.

    You decide.
    You Trust or you don’t.

Because it is a decision, that alone means there are “many” ways to “learn to trust”

The bible records the greatest trust not in experience and learning but in innocence.

It is the child that Trusts implicitly and thus is the absolute example and tragedy of trust we have.

    Tragedy because children grow up.
That can develop a lack of trust depending on How a Parent raised them.

For adults we are commanded with no options to Trust.

Proverbs 3:5,6 is the bottom line for Trust “in regards to things that are completely outside of our control” and for those things that are.

And it tells us how to.

    1) Just do it> Trust in the Lord
    2) Give it all or nothing> With all thy heart
    3) Don’t think, just do> Lean not into thy own understanding
    4) In everything or nothing> In all thy ways
    5) Without God you can’t do it> Acknowledge Him
    6) Do HIS will> He shall direct thy path.

    SO it’s simple really.

    You just do it.
