Crucifixion
But they were insistent, demanding with loud voices that He be crucified. And the voices of these men and of the chief priests prevailed. . . . And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’ ” Having said this, He breathed His last.
Luke 23:23, 46
Isn’t it funny how we call the day of our Lord’s death Good Friday? On this day, the people chose to release a murderer, Barabbas, instead of an innocent man. It was the ultimate betrayal, as those He came to save called for His death.
Maybe we call it “good” because it was not truly the death of Jesus Christ, but the death of sin. It is the day Christ was released from His earthly body in order to return to the Father in heaven and be our Advocate.
When you look at what He accomplished for us on the cross, you see it was not just a good day, but a great day, for us! Without His death, we would still be in our sins, we would still be separated from God, and we would not be able to enter heaven.
Remember, in the Old Testament, they were under the Law. If they broke one of the commandments, they were guilty of all. With the death of Christ on the cross, we are no longer under the Law; we are now saved by grace!
Calvary shows how far men will go in sin, and how
far God will go for manĂ¢€™s salvation.
